Mysore style Yoga is a traditional method for learning and practicing the Ashtanga sequence of asanas (postures) at your own pace with the individual guidance of a teacher using both verbal cues and hands on assists. Ashtanga (eight limbs) is a type of Hatha Yoga that incorporates the Tristana method of Yoga: Breath (Pranayama)/Posture (Asana), Bandha (seal), and Drishti (gaze). As we practice we experience varying levels of these three components working in tandem to bring greater awareness and vitality to our bodies, minds, and lives - on and off the mat. This practice is not about forming the perfect Asana, but about working with the breath to cultivate inner equanimity for whatever challenges we encounter in our practice and out in the world.
This class is for anyone who wants to learn the sequence or for those familiar with it who want to practice in a group setting. Classes at this time are led and incorporate standing and seated postures from both the Primary and Intermediate series being taught. There are many modifications to make this practice accessible for all levels of ability.
Paige Hartsell has practiced this lineage of Yoga since 2004, having learned under the guidance of many teachers, and has logged thousands of hours of personal practice. Over the years she has attended several trainings and practices in person and online with the late Sharath Jois (the most recent lineage holder for Ashtanga), Tim Miller, and Nancy Gilgoff, among others. Most recently she completed a 40 hour in person assistance training with David Swenson. She is excited to share this practice with anyone who wants to learn and build a practice community here in the Northeast Kingdom.
